Takeover Projects
Good system design and documentation are paramount to well-engineered, reliable integrated technology systems. For Mills to properly support a system, we need a thorough understanding of multiple systems within the home – networking and Wi-Fi, audio, video, motorized shades, lighting design, home cinema and media rooms, HVAC, etc.
Before we take ownership of (and ultimately support) a system that was designed by someone else, we invest a significant amount of time documenting the system and creating a report of our findings and recommended upgrades and updates.
Site Visit & System Testing
We will schedule an onsite visit to test the system and observe and document the functionality of the equipment and design. During this initial visit, we won’t adjust any programming or touch the equipment or cabling; we will be using the system as an end-user to test functionality. Technology problems are often intermittent in nature, so it’s helpful to have the homeowners there so we can understand any pain points or issues. These site visits typically take 1-2 days, based on the size of the home, and the complexity of the system.
During this initial visit, we won't do anything that a typical user wouldn't do - we won't adjust any programming or touch any equipment or cabling, we will just use the system as intended and observe and document the quality of the system design, functionality, documentation and installation.
Observations and Recommendations Report
We will create a report of our findings, including an outline of the general state of the system, any issues that we encountered and an estimate of what we think it might cost to fix. We will also provide recommended upgrades. Report creation typically takes about a day.
System Updates / Reprogramming
We’ll work with the homeowner to agree on what work needs to be done before we can begin the onboarding process with our support team. During onboarding, we will get the system added to our remote monitoring and support system, and add any notes that would be useful for the ongoing support of the system.
